Dear VCRC Men,
Thank you for all your support this season…we wouldn’t have had as much fun
without your generosity, advice, and support…and congratulations on your highly
successful season, you’re an impressive group!

Club unity! The 2012 Ventura County Rugby Club, men's and women's rugby-union teams.
Looking forward to a fun rugby-sevens season and 2013…and
uniting even more with you. Thank you again.
Cheers,
The Lady Outlaws
Well, our first rugby-union season together is complete. Our final home match was
against the San Diego Surfers DII team, and our final match of the season was away
against the Tucson Lightning. With only 6 teams in our league this year the season
was more short than in years past, but we are looking forward to women’s
rugby picking up speed in our region over the next 9 months and having more teams
involved in 2013.
We will be launching our rugby-sevens program the second week of April, and
our off season training for our rugby-union team is already in motion. It’s an
exciting time for the the Lady Outlaws and Ventura County Women’s Rugby!
Thank you to all of our supporters!!! Our rugby-union team looks forward to seeing
you in 2013. Come out and support our rugby-sevens team this spring and summer!

Thank you for a great 2012 rugby-union season!

We put up a solid fight at home against Santa Monica last Saturday, our third match of the season. Santa Monica won 25-0, but we battled hard and earned the respect of supporters, coaches, & the sir. Both teams enjoyed a super fun social at Chuy’s in Camarillo after the match. We face San Diego for our next match on March 10th, 2012 at home…social after will be at Chuy’s Camarillo again…Kickoff time is 10am at Monte Vista Middle School: http://venturacountyrugbyclub.com/womens/?page_id=18 …see you there!

We had a great experience in Las Vegas this month, on and off the pitch, despite taking our first loss of 2012. Thank you to Vegas for a good learning experience on the pitch, and a great social afterwards…competition, camaraderie, and fun!

Lady Outlaws vs. Vegas Slots, Feb. 18th 2012
The Lady Outlaws took the field for their first match of 2012 against the Temecula Mountain Lions. Final score: Lady Outlaws 24, Mountain Lions 17.

Ventura County Lady Outlaws vs. Temecula Mountain Lions
Match Summary:
“The Lady Outlaws scored the first try 15 minutes into the match after a hard fought battle by the forwards. A successful conversion kick by Emily Yoshiko Tao put the score at 7-0.
Despite momentum stopping tackles, strong pressure, and a handful of breakaway runs by The Lady Outlaws, the Mountain Lions managed two tries and completed one conversion kick before halftime…putting the Mountain Lions in the lead 12-7 at the halftime break.
After making some adjustments during the break the Lady Outlaws stormed back. Carly “Cougar” Helbert got the momentum going with a 30 meter run on the outside for a try. Shortly after rookie Janessa Martinez punched in her first ever try, tying the score at 17-17. (Fact: Janessa decided to play rugby only 48 hours prior to the match—THAT’s kickass my friends, and now she’s hooked!)

Lady Outlaws making adjustments at the break
From there, a long battled ensued between the two teams, the Lady Outlaws forwards fought hard allowing the back-line to put consistent pressure on Temecula with powerful runs and field control from centers Stephanie Cruz and Vanessa Alvarez. The Lady’s wingers complimented with strong outside pressure, and Fly-half Jessica “Kiwi” Szajner sent multiple successful passes to her fellow backs.
8-woman, Emily Yoshiko Tao, lead the forward’s charge with intense breakaway runs–and added two conversions on the day. Tao and the forward pack set up an aggressive center run towards the try-line, resulting in the go-ahead try by rookie center Vanessa Alvarez, giving the Lady Outlaws a 24-17 victory.

The pressure is on!
Alvarez’s enterprising running, tenacious tackling, and her go-ahead try earned her player of the match. Hard runs from the back-line, and consistent pressure from the Outlaws’ forward pack provided a great victory and start to the 2012 season—hard work pays off!
Overall, it was a great day for the Ventura County Rugby Club with both the women’s and men’s sides earned wins for the day.
Thank you to all supporters for coming to the matches!”

Need we say more? Ha Ha, we love it!
